Tip of the Week: 1/1/2012 Easy Screw Install

Some screws can be difficult to thread into hard plastic. To make it a little easier and avoid damaging the screw or the plastic, rub the screw across a bar of soap before installing it. The soap will act as a lubricant for the screw as it cuts threads in the plastic for the first time.

  1. On another note,, what i like to do is use what is called a “pinvise”, basically a small drill chuck with a handle on it and put a thread tap in it and cut the threads by hand. Doing this actually makes a stronger thread in the plastic or composite material that you are threading the screw into.
