Traxxas Maxx

The X-Maxx has been a huge success for Traxxas. Not only is it hugely popular, but it’s, well, huge. It’s big and maybe too big for some people. Answering the call for a smaller version, Traxxas announced the all-new Maxx. It’s basically a 1/10-scale version of the X-Maxx, built to run off 4S and go 60 mph. The new Traxxas Maxx has all the beef without all the size. It’s 4WD with a shaft-driven drivetrain and the suspension looks close to unstoppable.

One of the coolest and beefiest looking features is fact the shock towers are incorporated into the chassis. The Traxxas Maxx towers are an integrated part of the chassis and clearly look built for zero flex and little chance of breakage. The new Maxx chassis is a composite plastic tub and has the honeycomb style reinforcements Traxxas has been using many of its models. Like the Stampede 4X4, the Maxx is made to run off one battery, which most users find far more convenient than needing two packs.

The Maxx will roll on 2.8/3.6 in. wheels and the stock tire diameter is over 5.5 in. The larger inner diameter accommodates the stout suspension.

So, how does this compare to the Stampede 4X4? It’s bigger. It has a track width of 14.5 in. compared to 13.39 in. for the Stampede 4X4. It is significantly longer at 21.6 in. vs. 15.63 in. The wheelie bar accounts for some of the big difference. The wheelbase is easier to compare, and there it comes in much bigger as well. We’re talking 12.96 in. for the Maxx and 10.83 in. for the Stampede 4X4. Without going through all the numbers, for reference, the T-Maxx 3.3 has a wheelbase of 13.2 in., so nitro truck is only slightly longer there. The T-Maxx 3.3 is, however, much wider at 16.5 in. for track width.
