Is Subaru Making a Pickup Truck?

Subaru, known for their all-wheel drive vehicles, is now looking to expand their lineup with a pickup truck. With the recent surge in popularity for mid-size trucks, and the growing demand for new and innovative options, Subaru has taken notice of what consumers are looking for.

The Japanese automaker is reportedly in the early stages of developing a pickup truck that would be based on their Ascent SUV platform.

The Ascent is currently Subaru’s largest vehicle and is built on their global platform. It’s a unibody design that offers plenty of interior space and room for cargo.

This makes it an ideal platform to build a pickup truck off of as the chassis is already well suited for the task. The company has yet to reveal any details about what type of engine or features will be included in the truck but it’s expected to be powered by either a 2.4-liter turbocharged four-cylinder or an optional 3.6-liter six-cylinder engine.

Subaru has also been working on making their vehicles more fuel efficient so it’s likely that the pickup truck will use some form of hybrid powertrain technology. This would help make it more competitive with other mid-size pickups such as the Ford Ranger, Chevy Colorado and Toyota Tacoma.

Subaru has yet to officially announce if they will be producing a pickup truck but they have admitted to considering the idea. If they do decide to move forward with production, then it could be ready by 2021 or 2022.

Conclusion:

It appears that Subaru is actively exploring the possibility of making a pickup truck based on the Ascent platform. We won’t know if they will move forward with production until they make an official announcement but if they do, then we can expect to see this new model sometime in 2021 or 2022.
