Volvo has been manufacturing cars for over 100 years and its current lineup consists of sedans, SUVs, and station wagons. One thing that’s missing from the lineup is a pickup truck. But is there a possibility that Volvo may ever make a pickup truck in the future?
It’s certainly not outside the realm of possibility. The company already produces the XC90 SUV and V60 Cross Country wagon, both of which are off-road capable vehicles. So it stands to reason that Volvo could develop an off-road pickup truck if it wanted to.
The idea of a Volvo pickup truck isn’t entirely new either. In 2000, Volvo developed the XC70 pickup concept vehicle which featured a three-door body style, four-wheel drive capability, and a 2.5L turbocharged engine. The concept was never put into production though due to cost concerns.
But times have changed since 2000 and there’s now more demand for luxury pickups than ever before. This could be an incentive for Volvo to revisit the concept of a pickup truck and develop one for production this time around.
Volvo already produces cars in segments that are traditionally dominated by American automakers like Ford and Chevrolet so it wouldn’t be too much of a stretch for them to make a luxury pickup truck as well.
The company has already shown its willingness to experiment with different vehicle types with its all-electric XC40 Recharge SUV, so another unique vehicle type like an off-road capable luxury pickup truck isn’t out of the realm of possibility either.

Ultimately, whether or not Volvo will make a pickup truck in the future is still up in the air but given their recent innovations and experiments in different vehicle types, it’s definitely something they could potentially pursue in the future.
