Can You Jumpstart a Semi Truck With a Car?

Trucks are vital to the transportation industry, and it’s important for them to stay on the road. When a truck breaks down due to a dead battery, drivers often wonder if they can jumpstart a semi-truck with a car. Fortunately, it is possible to jumpstart a truck with a car, but precautions must be taken first.

Before attempting to jumpstart the truck, you need to make sure that both the car and the truck are parked in neutral and with their parking brakes engaged. Both vehicles should be on level ground as well.

After this is done, you will need jumper cables long enough to reach from one battery to the other. You should also check the terminals of each battery for corrosion or dirt.

Once you have checked for any corrosion and have your jumper cables ready, begin by connecting one of the red cables (positive) to the positive terminal on the dead semi-truck battery. Then attach the other end of that same cable to the positive terminal on your car’s battery. Next connect one of black cables (negative) from your car’s negative terminal and attach it securely to an unpainted metal surface that is far away from both batteries.

After all of this has been completed, start up your car and let it run for several minutes while keeping an eye on both batteries. If everything looks good, try starting up your semi-truck. If it starts successfully then you can disconnect all of your cables in reverse order.

Conclusion:

Jumpstarting a semi-truck with a regular sized car is possible as long as proper safety precautions are taken into consideration. Always remember that batteries contain explosive gasses so exercise caution when handling them.
