Did American Motors Make a Pickup Truck?

It is no secret that the American Motors Corporation was a major player in the American automotive industry during its heyday. During its time, American Motors (AMC) produced some of the most iconic cars and trucks ever made.

But did they ever produce a pickup truck? The answer is yes, and this article will provide a brief overview of AMC’s foray into the pickup truck market.

AMC’s first foray into the pickup truck market was with the Rambler Rebel Pickup. This compact truck was based on the Rambler Rebel platform, and featured a two-door cab body style with either a short or long bed option, depending on customer preference.

The Rambler Rebel Pickup was offered in both 2WD and 4WD configurations, and had an optional four-speed manual transmission. Under the hood, it featured a 133 cubic inch inline four-cylinder engine that produced 90 horsepower and 134 foot-pounds of torque.

In 1968, AMC launched their next pickup offering – the Javelin Pickup. This full-size pickup was based on the Javelin platform and featured either a two-door cab body style or four-door crew cab body style (depending on customer preference).

It came equipped with either a three-speed automatic or four-speed manual transmission, and under the hood it had either a 232 cubic inch inline six-cylinder engine or 343 cubic inch V8 engine (again depending on customer preference). Both engines combined to produce up to 225 horsepower and 315 foot-pounds of torque.

In 1974, AMC released their final pickup offering – the Pacer Pickup Truck. This compact truck was based on the Pacer platform and featured either a two-door cab body style or four-door crew cab body style (again depending on customer preference).

It came equipped with either an optional three-speed automatic or four-speed manual transmission, and under the hood it had either a 232 cubic inch inline six cylinder engine or 258 cubic inch V8 engine (again depending on customer preference). Both engines combined to produce up to 200 horsepower and 275 foot pounds of torque.

Conclusion:

In conclusion, American Motors did indeed make several different types of pickup trucks during their time in business. From their first offering –the Rambler Rebel Pickup – all the way up to their last offering –the Pacer Pickup Truck – they provided customers with quality pickups at affordable prices.
