Did GTO Ever Make a Pickup Truck?

The Pontiac GTO is an iconic muscle car that was produced by General Motors from 1964 to 1974. It was the first successful American muscle car and remains popular today with its classic styling, powerful V8 engine and sporty handling. But did the Pontiac GTO ever make a pickup truck?

In short, no.

The GTO was never offered as a pickup truck during its production run. The closest vehicle to a GTO pickup would be the Pontiac Trans Am Pickup, which was essentially a Trans Am with a pickup bed instead of the traditional coupe body style. It was produced from 1978 to 1981, but it was not officially called the GTO Pickup.

The Pontiac Firebird, which shared many components with the GTO, did have a pickup variant called the “Fleetbird” which was released in 1974 and lasted until 1982. It featured similar styling cues as its Firebird counterparts such as the slanted hood and aggressive stance. However, due to its limited production run and lack of popularity compared to other Firebirds it is rarely seen today.

Conclusion

So, in conclusion, no – the Pontiac GTO never made an official pickup truck model during its production run. However, there were other vehicles such as the Trans Am Pickup and Fleetbird that shared many of its styling cues while offering a more practical body style.
