How Can I Extend My Car RC?

Extending your car’s RC (Registration Certificate) is probably one of the most important things you can do when owning a car. An RC is the document that proves that the vehicle is registered with the concerned state or union territory’s transport authority and is legally allowed to ply on Indian roads.

An RC needs to be renewed periodically. The renewal period depends on the state in which you reside and also on your vehicle type. Generally, RC renewal has to be done after 15 years from the date of registration for non-transport vehicles, and after 5 years for transport vehicles.

How Can I Extend My Car RC?

The process of renewing your car’s RC is simple and straightforward. Firstly, you need to fill up an application form available at the RTO office or online at their website.

This form requires details such as your name, address, registration number of your vehicle etc. You also need to attach necessary documents such as proof of address, pollution certificate and insurance policy along with the application form. Once you submit all these documents, the RTO will verify it and issue a new RC for your car if everything is found in order.

In certain cases, you may have to pay a fine if there has been any delay in renewing your car’s RC or if there are any discrepancies between the documents submitted and information provided by you in the application form. In addition to this, you may also have to take a fitness test for your vehicle and get a fitness certificate from an authorised centre before submitting your application for renewal of registration certificate.

Apart from this, some states like Delhi allow online renewal of registration certificate through their official websites or mobile applications. This makes it easier for people to extend their car’s RC without having to visit an RTO office personally.

Conclusion: In conclusion, extending your car’s registration certificate requires filling up an application form along with necessary documents such as proof of address, pollution certificate etc., paying any applicable fines and getting a fitness certificate from authorised centre (if required). Certain states even offer online renewal facility which makes it easier for people to renew their vehicle’s RC without having to visit an RTO office personally.
