Pull-starting a radio controlled (RC) car is an essential skill for RC car owners. It allows you to start your car without using the battery, which can be drained or otherwise not available.
Pull-starting an RC car is actually quite simple, once you know the basics.
First and foremost, it’s important to make sure that your car is in neutral before attempting to pull-start it. If the car is in gear, pulling on the starter cord will cause too much strain on the engine and could cause serious damage. To put your car into neutral, simply move the throttle lever all the way up and shift the gear control lever all the way down.
Once your car is in neutral, it’s time to attach the pull-starter mechanism. This will generally consist of a rope connected to a handle which will be inserted into a hole near the engine or exhaust of your RC car.
Once this is done, simply pull on the rope until you feel resistance from within the engine. At this point you should be able to hear a click as the flywheel engages with its starter gears.
Now that your flywheel is engaged with its starter gears, you can now begin pulling on that rope with force and speed. You’ll want to pull quickly and firmly for approximately 8-10 seconds before releasing the rope. This should give sufficient energy to start up your RC engine.
Conclusion:
Pull starting an RC car isn’t difficult once you understand how it works and have all of your safety precautions in place. Make sure that your vehicle is in neutral before attaching and pulling on the starter rope and pull quickly and firmly for around 8-10 seconds before releasing it so that it has enough energy to start up its engine.
