How Do You Start a RC Nitro Car?

Nitro powered remote control (RC) cars are one of the most thrilling forms of RC car racing. Nitro RC cars use a small engine that runs on a special fuel mixture of nitromethane, methanol and oil.

The engines require more maintenance than electric powered RC cars, but they have the added benefit of providing more speed and power. If you’re new to nitro car racing, you may be wondering how to start a nitro RC car.

Preparation

Before you can start a nitro RC car, make sure you have the necessary safety gear. This includes safety glasses, heavy gloves, long pants and shoes that cover your feet. Additionally, make sure your car is in good working order by checking for any loose or missing parts and ensuring all screws are securely tightened.

Fueling

Next, fill your tank with the proper fuel mixture. You can buy ready-made fuel mixtures or mix your own using methanol, nitromethane and oil.

For best results use an off-road grade fuel with 10-20 percent nitromethane content. Before fueling up your car make sure it is turned off and cooled down.

Starting

Once your tank is full and all components are secure it’s time to get started. Place the car on a flat surface so it won’t move while starting it up. Pull out the glow plug igniter wire and plug it into the glow plug igniter port located on the side of the engine.

Pull Start

Most nitro powered cars use a pull start mechanism to ignite the engine. Attach one end of the pull starter cord to the starter shaft located at the back of the engine and hold onto the other end with one hand while pulling firmly with your other hand until you feel a resistance from within the engine.

Push Button Start

Some models use push button starters instead of pull starts for easier ignition. To activate press down on top button until you hear or feel the engine spark up from within.

Starting up a nitro powered RC car requires some preparation including securing all components and filling up with fuel mixture before initiating ignition through either pull starting or push button starting mechanisms depending on model type. With these steps in place you should be able to easily start up your nitro powered RC car in no time!
