How Do You Take a Bed of a Truck?

When it comes to moving furniture or large items, taking a bed off of a truck can be a daunting task. This task is usually best accomplished with more than one person, since the bed is heavy and bulky.

The process is relatively simple and straightforward once the right tools are gathered and the correct steps are followed.

Gather the necessary tools

The most important tool you will need for taking a bed off of a truck is an appropriate set of wrenches, preferably an adjustable wrench and a socket set. You will also need two or three ratchet straps to secure the bed once it is removed from the truck.

Loosen the bolts

Once you have your tools gathered, locate the bolts that secure the bed to the truck frame. Use your wrench to loosen these bolts until they can be removed. If some of them are stuck, you may need to use some penetrating oil or WD-40 to help them come loose.

Remove all components

Once all of the bolts have been removed, take out any other components such as nuts or washers that were connected with them. These should be set aside in a safe place until they are needed again.

Lift off the bed

Now that all components have been removed and set aside, it’s time to lift off the bed.

Have one person on each corner of the bed and lift in unison. Once lifted up enough, slide it off of the truck frame and onto something soft such as cardboard boxes or blankets.

Secure with ratchet straps

To prevent any damage during transport or storage, secure your bed with two or three ratchet straps. Make sure they are tight enough so that nothing moves but not too tight that it causes any damage.

Conclusion:
Taking a bed off of a truck requires some special tools such as an adjustable wrench and socket set as well as two or three ratchet straps for securing it when done. After loosening all of the bolts connecting it to the frame, lifting it off should be done in unison by more than one person before securing it with ratchet straps for transport or storage.
