How Many Semi Truck Drivers Are There in the US?

Semi truck drivers are an integral part of the US economy, transporting goods and supplies across the country. The trucking industry is a major employer in the US, employing more than 4 million people.

This includes more than 1.8 million semi-truck drivers.

The US Department of Labor Statistics (BLS) reported that in 2018, the number of semi-truck drivers in the US increased by 3.4 percent to 1,837,000 from 1,773,000 in 2017. This figure accounts for approximately 11 percent of all transportation workers employed in the country.

The BLS also reported that most semi-truck drivers work on a full-time basis, averaging about 50 hours per week. The majority are male (90%) and earn an average annual wage of $43,680 per year as of 2018.

The BLS also states that there will be an increase in demand for semi-truck drivers as the economy grows and consumer spending increases. This is due to the fact that most goods and supplies must be transported by truck across state lines or even across countries.

In conclusion, there are currently more than 1.8 million semi-truck drivers employed in the US – representing 11 percent of all transportation workers employed in the country. This number is expected to grow as consumer spending increases and the economy grows.
