How Much Does a Full Pickup Truck Weigh?

A full-size pickup truck can weigh anywhere from 4,000 to 6,000 pounds when unloaded. Just how much your particular truck weighs depends on the size, configuration and powertrain of the truck.

The weight of a pickup truck is determined by its size, engine type, transmission type and other components such as suspension, brakes and accessories. Smaller trucks tend to weigh less than larger ones.

A full-size pickup with a V6 engine will weigh more than one with a four-cylinder engine. A four-wheel drive model will be heavier than one with two-wheel drive because of the added weight of the transfer case and other components.

Pickup trucks come in several sizes and configurations. The most common size is full-size trucks which can have regular cabs, extended cabs or crew cabs.

The regular cab typically has two doors while extended cabs can have four doors or five doors with a rear seat that folds down into the bed of the truck. Crew cabs have four conventional doors and seating for up to six passengers.

Engine Configurations

The engine configuration determines how much power is produced by the vehicle’s engine and how much weight it adds to the overall truck weight. Full-size pickups typically come with either V6 or V8 engines.

V6 engines tend to be lighter than V8s but produce less power.

Transmissions

Transmissions also add weight to pickups since they are usually larger in size than manual transmissions. Automatics are heavier but provide smoother shifting and better fuel economy than manuals.

Accessories

Accessories such as air conditioning, power windows, mirrors and seats add additional weight to pickups as well. Some accessories are standard while others may be optional depending on the model.

A full-size pickup truck can weigh anywhere from 4,000 to 6,000 pounds when unloaded depending on its size, configuration, engine type and transmission type plus any accessories that might be included in the package. Generally speaking, smaller trucks weigh less than larger ones while V6 engines are lighter than V8s.
