Is Kia Planning a Pickup Truck?

Pickup trucks are no longer just a tool for businesses and contractors, but also have become increasingly popular with everyday drivers. Over the past few years, we’ve seen the introduction of new pickups from the likes of Ford and Chevrolet, and now it looks like Kia is getting ready to join the fray. Kia has recently filed a trademark application with the US Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) for the name “Kia Pickup Truck”, suggesting that they are indeed planning on entering the pickup truck market.

The filing was first spotted by Car And Driver magazine, who noted that it’s unclear at this point what form the pickup truck will take. It could be a midsize truck to rival offerings from Ford, Chevrolet and Toyota, or it could be a larger full-size model. We also don’t know what engines will power the truck, though Kia’s current lineup offers several powerful V6 and V8 options that would seem to be suitable for use in a pickup.

Kia is no stranger to producing vehicles outside of their traditional sedan and crossover offerings, as evidenced by their new Telluride SUV which has been met with critical acclaim. Given their success in other segments of the automotive industry, there’s no reason to believe that Kia won’t be able to make a successful pickup truck as well. We’ll have to wait and see what they come up with when they finally reveal their plans for this new model.

It looks like Kia is indeed planning on entering the pickup truck market in some capacity, though at this point it’s unclear what form their offering will take or when we might see it hit dealerships. With any luck, we should hear more about Kia’s plans soon enough – and hopefully they can bring something unique and exciting to an increasingly crowded segment.

Conclusion: It appears that Kia is indeed planning on introducing a pickup truck in some form or another. While details remain scarce at this point, it looks likely that we’ll hear more about Kia’s plans soon enough – hopefully bringing something unique to an already saturated market.
