What Is the Difference Between Pickup and Truck?

Pickup trucks and trucks have a lot of similarities, but they also have distinct differences. Both are types of vehicles that are used to transport goods and materials, but pickups are generally smaller than trucks.

Pickups are usually light-duty vehicles, while trucks are much larger and heavier with greater capability to transport heavier loads.

Pickups usually have an open bed with a tailgate, which makes them ideal for carrying large items like furniture or construction equipment. This also allows for easier loading and unloading of cargo. Trucks on the other hand, typically have a cab and a covered box body which makes them better suited for hauling large items or even hazardous materials that need to be kept away from the environment.

Size

Pickup trucks are generally smaller in size than their truck counterparts. Pickups typically range from 6-7 feet in length, while full-size trucks can be as long as 20 feet or more. This makes it easier to maneuver pickups in tight spaces; however, they can still carry large amounts of cargo with the right accessories.

Weight

Due to their smaller size, pickups tend to be lighter than trucks. Depending on the model, pickups may weigh anywhere between 3,000 and 6,000 pounds whereas full-size trucks typically weigh anywhere between 6,000 and 8,500 pounds.

Capability

When it comes to capability, pickup trucks are not designed for large loads like full-size trucks. Pickups may be able to tow up to 10,000 pounds on average compared to full-size truck’s ability to tow up 15,000+ pounds; however this is not true for all models.

Cost

Pickup truck prices tend to be lower than their truck counterparts due to the difference in size and capability; however this is not always true as some full-size truck models may still cost less than some pickup models. Additionally pickup prices can vary depending on trim level and options selected.

Conclusion

In conclusion there is a distinct difference between pickup and truck vehicles when it comes down to size, weight capacity and cost. Pickup trucks tend to be lighter in weight and smaller in size making them more maneuverable in tight spaces; however they cannot carry heavy loads like full-size trucks can. Full-size trucks on the other hand have greater weight capacity and can handle larger loads but they come at a higher price tag compared with pickups.
