What Was the Tow Truck Name in Cars?

The tow truck from the 2006 Pixar movie Cars is one of the most beloved characters in the franchise. Named Mater, the rusty tow truck is a loyal friend to hero Lightning McQueen and an overall lovable character. Mater is voiced by actor Larry the Cable Guy, and his catchphrases such as “Git-R-Done” and “Dad gum” have become popular around the world.

Mater’s backstory is that he was once a rusty old tow truck who lived in Radiator Springs. He was discovered by Lightning McQueen when he had gotten lost on his way to California.

McQueen found Mater after being towed into town, and quickly formed a friendship with him. The two soon became inseparable, with Mater helping McQueen get back on track and sharing his wisdom about life in Radiator Springs.

Mater’s design is based off of an American tow truck from 1955 called the International Harvester Metro Van. The Metro Van was used for towing cars in real life, so it made sense for it to be featured as a character in Cars. The animators at Pixar worked hard to bring Mater to life, adding their own unique touches such as rust spots and patches of paint to make him look more believable as a tow truck from Radiator Springs that had been around for years.

The International Harvester Metro Van was only produced until 1958, so it has become a rare vehicle today. However, if you’re lucky enough to find one at an auto show or classic car event you can still get an idea of what Mater looked like before he was brought to life by Pixar!

Mater has become one of the most beloved characters from Cars, thanks in part to his lovable personality and unforgettable catchphrases. He’s also iconic for being based off of an International Harvester Metro Van – making him a reminder of all the classic cars that have come before him!

In conclusion, the tow truck name from Cars is Mater, who was based off of an International Harvester Metro Van from 1955-1958. His lovable personality, unforgettable catchphrases, and iconic design make him one of the most beloved characters from this popular movie franchise!
