Who Plays Mater the Tow Truck?

Mater, the lovable and iconic tow truck from Disney Pixar’s Cars, has been a hit with fans of all ages since his first appearance in 2006. He’s a rusty old car with a heart of gold, and his silly antics always get him into trouble.

But who exactly plays the voice of Mater? That would be comedian and actor, Larry the Cable Guy.

Larry the Cable Guy is an American stand-up comedian, actor, writer, and producer. His real name is Daniel Lawrence Whitney, and he was born in Nebraska in 1963.

He rose to fame in the early 2000s as part of the Blue Collar Comedy Tour, alongside Jeff Foxworthy and Bill Engvall. He has since become one of the most popular comedians in the US.

In 2006, Larry was approached by Disney Pixar to voice Mater for Cars. The character was based on a 1951 tow truck that had been used at Walt Disney Studios for years before being retired to an auto museum. Larry brought Mater to life with his own unique comedic style – something that fans have come to love about him.

Since then, Larry has reprised his role as Mater in Cars 2 (2011) and Cars 3 (2017), as well as two direct-to-video spin-offs: Planes (2013) and Planes: Fire & Rescue (2014). He also voiced Mater for an episode of Mickey Mouse Clubhouse (2010). Aside from his work on Cars films, Larry has appeared in movies such as Tooth Fairy (2010), Jingle All The Way 2 (2014), and Pup Star (2016).

It’s no surprise that Larry the Cable Guy is the voice behind everyone’s favorite tow truck – Mater! With his unique comedic style and endearing persona, it’s easy to see why he was cast in this role. From 2006 onwards he has reprised this role multiple times both onscreen and offscreen for various films and TV shows – cementing himself as an iconic part of Disney Pixar history.
