Who Was the First Monster Truck Driver?

The first monster truck driver to become widely known was Bob Chandler, who is credited with inventing the modern monster truck. He created the first prototype of a monster truck in 1974, and by 1979 he had taken his invention to competitions.

Chandler, who was born in 1947, was a mechanic and welder by trade. He owned a business that specialized in customizing four-wheel drive vehicles. After building his first monster truck, he named it “Big Foot” after his nickname at work.

Big Foot made its debut at an automotive show in St. Louis, Missouri in 1979. It was an instant success with the audience and helped kick off the popularity of monster trucks as they are known today. After this event, Chandler began racing Big Foot at various shows around the country.

Chandler passed away in 2005 after suffering from cancer for many years but will always be remembered for launching the modern era of monster truck racing and entertainment that continues to thrill fans around the world today.
