How Do You Jumpstart a Pickup Truck?

Jumpstarting a pickup truck is a very important skill to have if you experience a dead battery. Dead batteries can happen for many reasons, including leaving the lights on overnight, a loose or corroded battery terminal connection, or the battery simply being old and worn out.

Luckily, with the right supplies and knowledge, jumpstarting your truck is relatively easy.

Gather Supplies – The first step in jumpstarting your truck is to gather the necessary supplies. This includes jumper cables and another working vehicle with a similar size engine. Additionally, it’s important to make sure both vehicles are turned off and the parking brakes are engaged during the jumpstart process.

Connect Jumper Cables – Once you have all of your supplies gathered, it’s time to start connecting the jumper cables. Begin by connecting one of the red clips to the positive (+) terminal on your truck’s battery.

Then connect one of the black clips to the negative (-) terminal on your truck’s battery. Next, connect one of the remaining red clips to positive (+) terminal on the donor vehicle’s battery and finally connect one of the remaining black clips to negative (-) terminal on donor vehicle’s battery.

Start Donor Vehicle – Before starting either vehicle, make sure that all of your connections are secure and double check that there are no sparks or flames near either car’s batteries. After double checking everything is safe, start up the donor vehicle and let it run for several minutes until it is at its normal operating temperature.

Start Your Vehicle – Once both vehicles are running and at their normal operating temperature, turn off both cars then attempt to start your pickup truck by turning on its ignition.

If everything has been connected properly, your truck should start right away! If not, check all connections again before trying again.

Conclusion:
Jumpstarting a pickup truck is an important skill that everyone should know how to do in order to avoid getting stuck with a dead battery in an emergency situation. With some basic supplies such as jumper cables and another working car with similar sized engine you can easily start up your car again in no time!
