Is Volkswagen Coming Out With a Pickup Truck?

Volkswagen, the German carmaker, is reportedly in works to develop a pickup truck. The plan is expected to be implemented by 2022 and the truck will compete with the likes of Ford Ranger and Chevrolet Colorado. The news was first reported by Automobile Magazin, a German media outlet.

The concept of a Volkswagen pickup truck has been around for quite some time but it never made it to production. In fact, VW has a pickup concept called Tarok that was unveiled in 2018 at the Sao Paulo Motor Show. It was based on the company’s MQB platform and featured an off-road-ready design.

As per reports, Volkswagen is now looking to bring the idea back to life with an entirely new model. It will be built on the same platform as other VW vehicles and will be designed as a more practical solution for everyday commuters. The truck is expected to offer a range of powertrains ranging from gasoline engines to plug-in hybrid options.

It is also likely that Volkswagen will launch two versions of the pickup truck – one with three doors and one with five doors. Both models are expected to feature an all-wheel drive system although only the five-door version could get an optional four-wheel drive setup.

The new Volkswagen pickup truck could be priced between $25,000 and $35,000 depending on its features and powertrain options. It is expected to go on sale in 2022.

Conclusion:

It seems that Volkswagen is planning on launching a pickup truck in 2022 which will compete with its rivals such as Ford Ranger and Chevrolet Colorado. While details about its features are still scarce, we can expect it to come with an array of powertrains ranging from gasoline engines to plug-in hybrid options. Pricing for this upcoming pickup truck is estimated between $25,000 and $35,000 which would make it quite competitive in its segment.
