When Did the First Monster Truck Come Out?

The creator of Bigfoot, Bob Chandler, is credited with being the father of modern-day monster trucks. He began building his monster truck in 1975 with a Ford F-250 pickup as a base. Using his skills as an engineer and fabricator, he modified and equipped the pickup with 66-inch tall tires that were used for logging at that time.

Chandler then formed the Bigfoot 4×4 Inc. to promote the sport of monster trucking and produce related merchandise. The company went on to become a major success and has been responsible for popularizing monster truck events all over the world.

By 1985, there were more than 100 different monster trucks competing in events all over the United States and Canada. Today, there are hundreds of different trucks competing in events around the world. Monster trucks have become an iconic part of motorsport culture.
